Savannah Outen is an American singer/songwriter who rose to fame after posting videos on Youtube. Savannah has more than 450,000 fans on the site and has gathered over 80 million views. She released her first original EP in October 2012 and has since then released 2 original music videos.
“Sing To Me” is the title of your first EP that was released digitally in October and physically in April. Tell us about the EP; what inspired you to write the songs and why did you pick that title?
This EP was a way to get more original music out to you guys! I hadn’t released anything for a bit, and I just really wanted to share with you where I was in my life. Jake Coco produced the EP and I wrote 5 out of the 6 songs with Tom Harrison. A lot of things inspired this EP. Mostly personal experiences and what I was going through at that time. I chose the title Sing To Me, because I wrote Sing To Me in a hotel in LA, and when I wrote that song, it was the start of this whole EP. It was just a great representation of it.
We had an amazing time creating this EP and I am so glad it’s available for everyone to hear. Working with Jake and Tom was so much fun. We were all really pumped about these songs and had such a good time bringing them to life.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of the EP and I see a lot of potential in it and its songs. Are you going to try and release a single and promote it in radio stations?
Thank you Bahjat! Right now, we are just seeing where it goes. We’ve been promoting it and sharing it with a lot of people in the industry.
With this new EP, we notice that your sound and lyrics have matured a lot, did your music evolve naturally or did you think at a point “I have to start writing more mature music”?
That’s one of the main things I wanted to do with this EP. I wanted people to know that I’ve grown a lot as an artist. My music has evolved a lot. I think in the last year or so, I’ve been writing more mature music and it was just a natural progression.
Your Youtube videos have gathered more than 80 MILLION views and you first started there too. How does it feel like to be one of the first people to start a career out of putting videos on Youtube?
It’s really cool to be one of the first people to start a career out of Youtube. It’s been such a great way to share my music with people all over the world. I couldn’t be more grateful. If it weren’t for Youtube, no one would know me and my music!
Would you ever consider stopping putting out Youtube covers and focusing more on original music?
It’s come across my mind, and some folks in the business have said that before. However, that’s where I started and I think it’s super important to keep that going. I definitely want to focus more on original music though. But I don’t think I’d ever stop posting Youtube covers.
What is the thing that most fans don’t know about you?
Hmmm… They probably don’t know that I eat a banana and peanut butter almost every single day for lunch!
What do you like to do when you’re free?
I love just hanging out with friends and having game nights. I also love trying out new restaurants & vintage shopping.
What is the craziest thing that happened in your career? I’m sure there are plenty of them!
I think one of the craziest things that has happened in my career has been the fans that have followed me on this journey. It still is a crazy thing for me to think about. I can’t imagine all of these people listening to music I’ve made, or watching videos I’ve made. It’s pretty surreal. The craziest moments are when I watch videos of people singing MY songs.
So what’s next for Savannah Outen the artist? New original music? New singles from Sing To Me? New tour or shows?
I would love to know what’s next for me! This industry is so up and down. But I really want to take things to the next level. So I am starting to make things happen behind the scenes. One thing I can tell you though is I’m starting a new channel that may have to do with fashion ;)
Thank you so much for doing this! Any final words?
Thanks Bahjat! And thank you for always being so supportive. YOU ROCK. Xoxo
